Mission
Advancing the study of constitutional governance, democratic resilience, and peaceful political transition in Central and West Africa.
The Assibong Institute produces rigorous, independent research that informs policymakers, strengthens institutions, and expands African societies' capacity to govern themselves with justice, accountability, and enduring legitimacy. We engage the United States government, peer research institutions, and international organizations on the policy questions that will define Cameroon and the broader Gulf of Guinea region in the decades ahead.
Constitutional Design
& Governance
Post-conflict constitutional architecture, minority rights protection, and the institutional foundations of democratic transition in Central Africa.
Accountability
& Rule of Law
International legal mechanisms, targeted sanctions frameworks, and the documentation of governance failures in Cameroon and the broader Gulf of Guinea region.
Regional Political
Economy
The CEMAC economic zone, Gulf of Guinea hydrocarbon governance, the Lake Chad Basin security complex, and the Nigeria-Cameroon-Chad regional system.
The late Dr. Patrick Assibong — Senior Lecturer of Political Science, University of Buea, Cameroon. A scholar who insisted that the post-colonial African state must be rebuilt from first principles, not merely reformed at the margins.
